The Requirements Tree
The Truereq Requirements
Tree™ is the backbone of your Truereq product management system. All
users see the same tree of information, and can add items and make
comments that will be visible to everyone else in the Workspace.
The Tree is a hierarchical
representation of your information. You can create a nested tree
structure, placing items under other items to show that they are
related. For example, you could create a product, add folders under
that product for different functional areas, and then place
requirements in each of those folders to organize them.
The Tree supports drag and
drop functionality. To move an item in the Tree, simply click and drag
it to the new location and then drop it there.
Items in the Tree
There are eight types of items you can add to the Tree. To add any
item, select the item in the Tree under which you want the new item
added, and then use the Add menu or the icon bar.
Note: you can also
right-click on any item and use the context-sensitive menu which
appears.
Folder
A folder is a container for other items. Use folders to organize
different groups of items in your Tree.
Note: New Workspaces start with one folder, which
will contain all of the other items in your Workspace.
Product
Add a product to your Tree for each of your
company's products that you will be tracking in Truereq. A product can
only be added under a folder.
Requirement
Requirements constitute the necessary elements of your products.
Requirements can be added to products or folders.
Survey
A survey is a web-based questionnaire related to a product or
requirement that you can create inside Truereq. You can either attach
surveys to a specific requirement, or gather them in a separate folder
of their own.
Webform
A Webform lets you create a
web page where anyone can fill in product or requirement information. This information will be automatically forwarded and imported into the Webform folder your Workspace.
Issue
An issue can be used to highlight an open question about a product or requirement. All users can add an issue to a folder, product or requirement, then describe the issue clearly in its overview tab. Comment threads provide a good source of communication for issues.
Ranking
A ranking provides a way for different users in your Workspace to
prioritize items in the Tree. You can add a ranking item by clicking on
the ranking icon in the icon bar. For a detailed description of the
functionality of rankings, see the Rankings section.
Attachment
Any type of document which resides on your file system can be added to
the Tree. You can add an attachment by clicking on the attachment icon
in the icon bar, selecting a file in your local or network file system,
then clicking on the Open button. A file may also be attached by simply
dragging and dropping it from your file system into the Tree.
Individual documents or folders of documents can be attached to any
item in the Tree. If you drag a folder of documents to the Tree, a new
folder will be created in your Tree with the documents inside as
attachments.
- To view an attachment, double-click on the
attachment icon. To save the attachment from Truereq to another
location, just choose Save As... from the File menu in the
open application. Please note that changes made to an attachment will
not automatically be reflected in the Tree. You must first save the
file locally, and then add it again as an attachment.
- Attachments can be moved and deleted just like
other items in the Tree. You can also have a comments dialog relating
to an attachment.
Search Tool
Truereq's Search Tool
(located directly above the Requirements Tree) lets you enter text to
search for any item in the Tree. When you start typing in the search
area, all items in the Tree that match your text turn blue in color.
Note: search is
case-sensitive.
The Search Tool has the
option of searching all text in the Tree (including the description
fields and the comment fields) or excluding the comments fields. By
default, the Search Tool searches all text. To change this to exclude
comments, click on the search icon
and choose Exclude Comments. If you want to clear the search
box to begin a new search, click on the button to
the right of the search box.
